Happy Dragon Boat Festival!

6

Song of Phoenix released a trailer today and it looked super badass ❀ BUT it should not derive us from our main mission today: eat a lot of zongzi! Today is the Dragon Baot Festival, also called DuanWuJie.

Here is the trailer for Song of Phoenix. The legend is that the Dragon Boat Festival is an occation to commemorate poet Qu Yuan’s death (Ma Ke’s character). Zong zi are thrown in the water per tradition because Qu Yuan drowned himself in a river, after twenty eigth years of exile from his country.

It looks good right? But not as good as beautiful zongzi! Zongzi is a traditional Chinese dish composed of sticky rice and delicious filling, all wrapped in bamboo leaves. I know it is also eaten a lot in other Asian countries and you can find more technical information on its own wikipedia page. πŸ˜‰ We are more here for the beautiful upcoming pictures.

To start off, some “fanarts” πŸ˜‰

I love zhongzi! IIRC, it’s wrapped with lotus leaves, right? It’s pretty popular in my country (with different name, in another Chinese dialect, not Mandarin), although because the population is predominantly Muslim, the filling is usually chicken.

    • Apparently, Chinese zongzi are mostly wrapped in bamboo leaves, but other Asian countries uses other uses other leaves like lotus, maize, banana, canna, shell ginger and pandan (thanks wikipedia!) Ohhh, I never tried Chicken, should go buy one these days ^^ I think they use Pork because the meat is a lot fatter, which makes the rice more flavourful at the end.
