Zhang Yishan is doing pretty well these days! He just cast along side Cai Wenjing to play in the Chinese edition of Korean drama Kill Me Heal Me. I know he will do a great job! The Chinese name of the drama is 柒个我 One of Me. The drama tells the story of a man with multiple personalities and schizophrenia. Cai Wenjing played Zhou Gege in The Interns and also second female lead in So Young. Happy to see her as lead this time!
Shining star Hu Bingqing will be starring drama 獨孤天下 Du Gu Tian Xia with Zhang Danfeng. Ady An will also be part of the crew!!

wow Tribes and Empires should been be movie rather than drama. Scenes with Huang Xuan are so intense.
Legend of Dragon Pearl looks funny and entertaining. I like chemistry between Yang Zi and Qin Junjie since Zhu Xian, but hear they are even more adorable.

Sorry to hijack this post with a ZLY question but when does Rookie Agent Rouge air? Would you know? I think it was mentioned somewhere but I lost track. Saw that Sparrow already had its press conference and it’s airing next month. Zhang Ruo Yun!!! I may give this a try to see if LYF acts better ok such roles rather than the SOL/Chusen characters.

Thanks! It looks like Zhang Ruo Yun will not get the girl (again!) in Sparrow but I will give it a few episodes to try – am sure it will be subbed with the legions of LYF fans out there!! If LYF still doesn’t impress me in Spareow, then he will be in my “firmly allergic”‘bucket!

yeah GD has a lot of stage presence and my favorite BigBang songs were made by him. He is really talented and he can pull off crazy looks that I dont think anyone else can. I dont know how he does it. It looks good on him but when you see them on someone else you are like nope. If you haven’t yet, check out “That XX” is my favorite song by him.

I heard the first couple of episodes are okay and the drama is getting better and better as you continue watching. However, at the moment, the dramas at the top are 1. Love O2O, 2. Ice Fantasy, and 3. Zhu Xian (not including webdramas) so they are not that popular compare to the big guns.

I would recommend Novoland! It’s not too long – 28 episodes and each episode is also short and sweet. I like all the actors and actresses – although newbies, I think they all can act decently and everyone looks good! Zhang Ruo Yun of course is oozing charisma and doing very well in his role. I love the headgear on Guan Xiao Tong and she pulls off being 18 well with her youth! i got distracted a little initially with the blue contact lenses but got over it after the first 2 episodes!

Actually, the drama rankings go – Zhu Xian, The Mystic Nine, Love 020 so far. Then, it’s Hot Girl and Ice Fantasy. Ice Fantasy used to rank higher but it’s ratings keep dropping to its lowest this week. The Mystic Nine’s been beating Ice Fantasy in the same timeslot. Online, Love 020 has good ratings.. but online numbers can be/are sometimes just made-up. TV ratings for Love 020 are down to 0.4, that’s pretty low. Novoland isn’t that great, I checked it out, and Zhang Ruoyun and the second female lead is good in it, but Guan Xiaotong isn’t

You are probably right. I only looked at the ratings once yesterday when it popped up on my dashboard. Hmm, I am surprised Love O2O is not more popular, it is the most trended drama on weibo, followed by The Mystic Nine. However, I am not surprised by the low ratings of IF.

I finished Novoland: The Castle in the Sky. There are some good stuff but the lead female character drove me nuts! If you’ve seen 华胥引, you would know not to expect a happy ending.

Really re female lead? I actually liked the character – I thought she did well in contrasting her puppy love and adult feelings and j appreciated that once she decided, she didn’t waver and created a messy love triangle!

Thanks for all the info guys! I guess it is one of those mixed dramas. Hmmm, I don’t think I will watch it since everyone agrees that the ending wasn’t good. I am used to sad endings but sometimes they can be somewhat satisfying even if I am crying my eyes out.

I’m surprised too. Thought Love 020 would do better even though it’s not what I like – it’s really cheesy. Also, I think anything with Yang Yang would trend because his fans are very rabid..

The current ending works with the mythology. I wonder how the alternate ending will work.
She needs to be helped and protected too much. Also, she is not exactly a rational or deep thinker.

Re YI Fu Ling, oklah – she is only meant to be 18 and she can’t help it if the boys all want to rescue her! 🙂 I actually thought that her fights with FTY were quite realistic !

Didn’t read the books either. In the first Novoland drama, every couple ended badly. Once the explanation was given about how the Winged Tribe could fly, the ending was logical.
As for the girl. Even at the moment she turned to dust, she was still clueless what the last several months was really all about. Such a character doesn’t work for me. So you are correct with “different folks, different strokes!!”

I couldn’t find an appropriate place to start my reply to the question about Novoland Castle In The Sky so here’s my response!
The drama is good in the sense that it’s quick and easy: it’s a short series with short episodes and you could probably skip the bulk of the plot if you wanted to (like the crazy Queen’s storyline I skimmed over) and still understand what’s going on. The CG background was done nicely and I loved the costumes that the main couple wore (if only I could wear main girl’s clothes in real life everyday and not look weird…) Everyone plays there role with a passing score, but Zhang Ruo Yun was sizzling hot and definitely the show stealer (if it’s even possible for the main male lead to be the show stealer.) I’m convinced that if they had casted any other actor, it wouldn’t have worked in the same way. What I didn’t like was the ending, it was…stupid for a lack of a better word. I felt like they tried to make it “deep” and “emotional” (the whole him searching endlessly for her reincarnation) but all it did was make me throw my hands up and scream “WUH?”
I heard there’s an alternate ending too but I’m confused because I also heard there’s going to be a season 2 and I’m guessing the alternate ending is going to be a happy one; so what’s the second season going to be based on? The first ending or the alternate one? If anyone knows please tell me T-T

I am with you on everything you said! FTY is not an easy character to play – could have been pretty one-tone or plain right out weird with the duality. ZRY carried it off well and am now a fan (so gonna brave Sparrow even if he doesn’t get the girl again!!)
Yes that ending – WTF happened ? My Mandarin is passable but not great and I am still waiting for subs to fully understand what happened – do you know how the reincarnation of the Star Deity is awakened ? I thought it had to be via consummation with her destined one (hence everyone’s insistence that she marries , first BTJ and then FTY) but seems that it was as simple as a cut ? Don’t quite get it.
Apparently the director posted in his weibo that the alternate ending is out on 31.8. Not sure how it would tie into S2 though – hopefully ZRY resumes his role!

I actually skimmed through it cause I realized that the ending was going entirely to shits xD but from my vague understanding, BTJ and the evil person fucked up the prophecy/destiny and he moved the “fate” from FTY onto himself? So that he’d be YFL’s soulmate or whatever and of course everything fell apart towards the end.
Thanks for the Soompi suggestion down below! It looks like we really will get an alternate ending! Or the original real ending…? Seems like Tencent got mad about the episodes being leaked and aired that crappy ending as revenge instead of the true ending, if I’m reading everyones comments correctly.
I hope ZRY resumes his role too, it wouldn’t be Novoland: Castle in the Sky without him! I became a fan too after this drama ^^ I’ll be watching Sparrow for him as well 😀

I just finished watching Novaland too. I give a 3.9/5. I recommend watching it if you have time. I like freshness of the young cast and thought it was quite entertaining. Also the CGI was well-executed and costumes were pleasing to the eyes. It’s quite short but easy to understand even for a non-Mandarian speaker like me. Honestly, I came in with really low expectation for the series based on the trailer and the circle lens. Plus I finished Wuxin and ZRY didn’t leave much an impression but here he was the reason why I kept watching it. I thought at first, is he really the main guy? He seems so bad in the first couple episodes but as it progresses, he honestly win me over the other Humankind dude. That dude had no chance! I can see why the female lead eventually fall for him and their chemistry was so adorable. The things he did for the female lead, oh my gosh, *swoons*.Plus the fact he’s royal and is a lot more smarter and strategic than the wimpy second guy. I know a lot of other blogs do not like the female lead as much and I don’t think it’s the actress’ fault. I think she can emote very well despite her age. It’s just her character was written that way. She’s a lot better than most actresses in their thirties.
But I’m confused…what do you mean he didn’t get the girl? He technically did get the girl in Novaland…she definitely chose him but just no happy ending 😦
Btw, since it’s not as popular as the other dramas with big names, how does this drama fare in terms of ratings? I hope it’s doing well despite a fresh cast. It’s so much easier to find k-drama ratings and its popularity :c

Hi. I also just finished watching Novaland. Overall a 3.9/5 for me.
I had really low expectations due to the trailer and the circle lens and ZRY didn’t wow me much in Wuxin but I was taken back the series. I didn’t think it would be the drama that I would wait to watch each week. I thought the series progressed well in the beginning and somewhat middle however toward the ending episodes I did get annoyed a bit. Honestly, I see lots of people complaining on the lead actress and I think it’s more how her character was written but as a young actress she did fine with what was given. She definitely can emote and omg ZRY definitely slays this role. Although he does exaggerate in certain scenes, I was definitely rooting him over the other guy. I was definitely taken back in the first few episode because he seems like the bad guy but the things he does for the female lead. *swoon* Also, he is a lot more smarter and has more depth than the other guy. Waiiiit. He technically got the “girl” though right she did ultimately love him more than the Humankind dude. But just no happy ending 😦 Also, to my surprise, I didn’t hate the second female lead as much, she has other reasonings too. The only two annoyed me were the one dude who solve puzzle and again the second lead dude.
Also, I’m curious since it’s not as popular as the other big dramas, is it doing well even in ratings despite no big names? Since I do see lots of people watching it… It’s hard to know what drama does well in China compared to Korea.

Rating wise I’m not sure but the show is fairly popular despite the relatively fresh cast mainly because Zhang Ruo Yun’s performance was devastatingly hot xD I see so many new Zhang Ruo Yun fangirls, myself included!

I know it has passed the 1b mark for Internet viewers (someone on Soompi mentioned that they had a celebratory party when that happened) but not sure what is current viewership at although it’s no 3 after Mystic Nine and Ten Deadly Sins. Not sure how it’s doing for tv ratings though

I would rate the show 7.5/10 – would have given it 9 but discounted it for ep 27/28 and the ending! Alternate ending – do your job!!!
Yes, agree that second female lead was not uber annoying and the actress was decent too. I can understand why she did what she did – she was just young, proud and selfish – and ultimately paid for it with her life. Actually, I felt pretty sorry for BTJ and could actually understand the change in him as he was literally lied upon and used by YFL’s dad – however, that whole change of fate thingy with FTY was just weird/badly executed and totally put me off!
I think another commentator said that YFL was not very bright to not have known what was going on until the very end but I thought that was okay considering that no many people knew about it anyways (seems like only the 3 teachers really know the story and even Feng Ren and FTY were merely guessing and not 100% sure if they were he actual reincarnation ) so the story made sense. I think I get more annoyed with weak female characters who cannot decide between 2 dudes or aegyo for no reason! Not everyone is meant to be intelligent 🙂 so I am more compassionate to that personality facet

Okkaaay. I get what you mean. Did you watch his other drama where he leads? It’s called 15 years of migatory birds. I watch it bc I was too anxious waiting for novoland so I want to see more of ZRY’s face. His acting is a bit weak in here compared to Novoland but I still rooted for him. Though many prefer second guy. The girl chose him too but they didnt live happily ever after either. 😦

I did ! I thought he pulled off the carefree youngster role pretty well – wanted to see if he could do that after his turn in Wuxin. ZRY did well but yeah, I liked the second male lead too – very noble!! Having said that can see why female lead is hung up over ZRY character after so many years. However, the noble idiocy concept dragged on too long and I thought ruined the show 🙂

Tribes and Empire drops another documentary, this time interview with original author Jin Hezhai and concept art producer Art+.
Summary:
-The author is very pleased with the results so far, and some of the scene the drama have even exceeded his expectation and imagination when writing.
– Novoland world first started as people in China upon seeing western grand fantasies like Lord of the Rings and Warcraft, they wanted to built a complete fantasy world on the same scale as middle earth but with people, cultures and values which they could fit themselves in that world.
-Concept drawings starts in 2014, 1 year before filming. And it is created with Art+, the author and production team. The artistic says it’s not difficult to just create a world you imagine when reading the book, but the most difficult the key thing is to create a world would everyone reading the book could imagine would draw condenses on.
-Concept not only cover the periods and places described in Tribes and Empire book, but also covers places and time periods the novel does not touch. The goal is to create a consistent visual world with a sense of history and place, and it will aid other productions cover the same world. (me: Castle in the Sky clearly did not get that memo…)
-At the end, the market when the drama air early next year, she hope the drama would need the expectation of fans.
